Unlocked iPhones Sold in US

Wizards of Technology - Exclusive

While researching T-Mobile's sales of unlocked iPhones in Germany, the Wizards of Technology have uncovered a T-Mobile Dealer in Hawaii that is selling unlocked iPhones.

These iPhones are fully unlocked and openly advertised as such.

In conversation with one of their employees, we were told that these iPhones were purchased in the US and modified via software, but was instructed not to update the firmware. The firmware on these devices is Apple iPhone 1.1.1 and they indicated that if the software was updated, that they would attempt to re-unlock, but that they could not guarantee this service. When asked about warrantees, the employee indicated that there was no warranty available.

Indeed, it would seem, that these iPhones are part of a batch of missing iPhones. As other sources have reported, Apple is monitoring how many iPhones are sold versus how many are activated, which reveals a large gap in activations.

This dealer sells a large collection of unlocked
phones (TCA Wireless), and is located within Don Quixote (formerly Daiei), a retail supermarket in Honolulu, Hawaii.
